We’re still a long way from the bionic man, but nano-scale electronic wires and living cells reach a new high point of making nice with each other in a recent Nature Materials paper. A Harvard-MIT collaborative team that also included Boston Children’s Hospital researchers has for the first time grown three-dimensional living tissues around a mesh core of nanoelectronic sensors. These sensors retain the capacity to sense and report what the cells around them are doing.
